Habitat Solutions supports LFA as a Principal Donor

Habitat Solutions and the LFA are closely aligned with our goals for restoring and sustainably managing natural environments in the urban landscapes of Australian cities and towns.

We are delighted to announce that Habitat Solutions has become a Principal Donor of the Landscape Foundation of Australia (LFA).  The purpose and goals of Habitat Solutions align closely with those of the Foundation, which are to protect, restore and sustainably manage natural environments in the urban landscapes of Australian cities and towns.

As a member of the Restoration Decade Alliance, LFA supports the United Nations Decade of Ecosystem Restoration 2021-2030, together with twenty other national environmental organisations. We recognise that to achieve the ecosystem restoration goals set for the decade and beyond, will require companies such as Habitat Solutions, with the skills, resources and commitment to high quality restoration outcomes.

Acacia terminalis subsp. Eastern Suburbs, fondly known as the Sunshine Wattle, is admired for its vibrant yellow blooms and vital ecological role.

Habitat Solutions is a specialist environmental restoration division of Landscape Solutions. Employing over 700 staff, the company now services habitat restoration projects throughout the east coast of Australia.

Habitat Solutions is headed by Joel Hall and William Thurston who, between them, have more than 40 years of industry experience. William has well developed expertise in bush regeneration working as an accredited BAM assessor. He is highly skilled in reporting and mapping, preparing Environmental Impact Assessments, Vegetation and Bushland Management Plans, Biodiversity Assessments, and fauna and flora monitoring programs. Joel has worked on many key environmental projects and is now developing business strategies to achieve environmental restoration objectives.

Recently completed projects include working with the Acacia terminalis subsp. Eastern Suburbs. Affectionately known as the Sunshine Wattle, it is admired for its vibrant yellow blooms and vital ecological role, holding a special place in the hearts of conservationists and nature enthusiasts alike. However, its rarity and precarious existence led to its classification as an endangered species under both the Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 and NSW Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016. Habitat Solutions successfully surveyed, mapped and reported on a thriving community of 500+ species, each in various stages of maturity.

Previously unmapped, this discovery represents one of the highest density populations of Acacia terminalis within the Sydney area to date. A rigorous conservation and bush regeneration program has been implemented in close collaboration with Habitat Solutions’ dedicated client in order to maintain a stable population of Acacia terminalis subsp. within its natural habitat.

Habitat Solutions has also recently completed a program to install nesting boxes at a university campus riparian creekline, providing critical nesting spaces for local fauna. Researching and monitoring of these nesting boxes will continue to assess the impact they are having to increase local populations.

We are impressed by the highly experienced, industry-qualified professional staff at Habitat Solutions who work closely with clients to implement environmentally sensitive and sustainable solutions. They assess existing environmental status and identify impact factors and recommend restoration and implementation strategies. Restoration activities are carefully monitored over time to determine their effectiveness and to detect any modifications to the management program that are required.

Sharing knowledge about the sites and ecological systems with their clients promotes joint engagement in ongoing protection and management of restored natural environments. This approach strongly aligns with our commitment to generate and share new knowledge. Collaborating with and supporting local community groups and volunteers is a key objective for Habitat Solutions to achieve long term project success. For LFA, this demonstrates what we would call ‘enabling communities’.

Many thanks, Habitat Solutions, for supporting the LFA!

We foresee a mutually rewarding collaboration promoting, advocating for, and doing the work of restoring and sustainably managing natural environments in the urban landscapes of Australian cities and towns.
