The aim of the Market is to attract private sector investment in biodiversity protection and restoration projects across Australia. The LFA supports the proposed Market in principle because it has the potential to generate the large scale funding required to repair the widespread damage that has already occurred to ecosystems across Australian landscapes. However, the LFA has identified a number of issues that need to be addressed in the final legislation, together with recommended amendments to ensure the Market has integrity and operates effectively to achieve the intended ecosystem restoration outcomes.

The submission was drafted by LFA Director Noel Corkery, who was also responsible for preparation of the submission made by the Restoration Decade Alliance, as Chair of the Government Policy Working Group .
